Grenada is moving closer to its next general election, although no election date has been officially announced as of September 2026. The last general election was held on 23 June 2022, and the Government of Grenada states that the next election is due by 2027.
Under Grenada’s Constitution, a general election must be held within three months after Parliament is dissolved. The timing of dissolution is therefore an important step in determining when voters will go to the polls.
The political environment is already becoming more active. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell leads the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), while Emmalin Pierre leads the New National Party (NNP). The Democratic Progressive Movement (DPM), led by Peter David, has also emerged as another political force in the developing campaign environment.
Election preparations are also visible through the Parliamentary Elections Office. In July 2026, the office published the Official Consolidated List of Electors as of 30 June 2026 and encouraged registered voters to inspect their information and request corrections where necessary.
For Grenadians at home and abroad, the period ahead is likely to bring increased campaigning, candidate announcements, manifesto discussions and public debate on issues such as the economy, employment, housing, healthcare, education, infrastructure, tourism and the cost of living.
As election activity increases, voters can benefit from separating campaign claims from verified information. Reviewing party manifestos, listening to candidates directly, checking official election information and comparing documented policy proposals can help citizens make their own informed choices.
OneJamii will continue to share relevant election information as it becomes available, including official announcements, important dates, voter information and major developments affecting communities across Grenada.
The decision belongs to the people. Stay informed. Ask questions. Verify the facts. Participate.
